Nashville, Tenn. –September 29, 2015- The Tennessee Chapter of Health Information Management Systems Society and Belmont University have joined forces to deliver a fast-paced and content-rich health information technology Workforce Accelerator Program. The objective is to prepare professionals for the ever-changing healthcare environment and equip graduates to meet the requirements of emerging positions.

The TN HIMSS Belmont HIT Workforce Accelerator is a 14-week certificate program designed to help clinicians learn more about technology and technologists to learn more about the clinical side of the business. Classes this fall will cover an overview of data and analytics, population health management, interoperability, agile, revenue cycle management, IT operations, healthcare in the future and many other topics. Instructors are comprised of respected speakers on national and international stages on their topics of expertise.

“The course offers top-notch speakers, hands on experiences and quality exercises to connect the challenges of healthcare, opportunities of IT and the expertise of business,” said accelerator program graduate Angela Meeks with HCA Healthcare. “The course is a must for individuals looking to increase their HIT knowledge and network with leading industry professionals.”

TN HIMSS, the Nashville Technology Council and the Nashville Healthcare Council collaborated nearly seven years ago to understand and determine the needs of the health information technology workforce in Middle Tennessee. The study revealed the need for approximately 3,500 new health analysts as a result of the HITECH Act enacted in 2009. Thus far, the program has helped industry professionals by strengthening their knowledge base and assisting those entering the HIT realm.

“The class was wonderful. It has helped me transition into a new area of healthcare. I went from being a CCU nurse to IT; I needed all the help I could get.” Elizabeth Gregory, RN, BSN.

The fall class will kick off on October 5th and run through mid-January. TN HIMSS is awarding two scholarships for the fall HIT Workforce Accelerator Program. To be considered, individuals must submit an application by September 25. To register for the class, visit www.tnhimss.org/hit-accelerator-program.
